How Can We Help?
This April, eight tribal hide tanning experts gathered to discuss & teach the traditional practices of brain tanning. This project was funded by the Native American Agriculture Fund and organized by Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board by AmeriCorps member Luca and her site supervisor Shoni Walker. The AmeriCorps member gained tremendous insight on food sovereignty practices from utilizing the entire animal to fostering a connection with each hide. This event was transformative for all those involved and connected the 20 learners on a meaningful level.
